Worst Enemy

in poetry •  7 years ago

Up until this point in life was always my worst enemy
Truth be told the reason is I'd never really got to know me
Always over-analyzing, Constantly self doubting
Enthralled with fear of failure, harsh thought overflowing
Never fully comprehended what wonders waited
Until the day where it all was clear, fog faded
An example of a rare breed, perhaps one of a kind
Shame so much time was wasted, trying to kill off this beautiful mind

ah yes, the enemy within. I had this problem once. I told her to shut the hell up and I'm much better for it.

Sadly I'm the unruly type and tend to not listen to what KLYE inside my head yells at me for long.. :P

You are alone there. The biggest enemy lies between our ears.

Dont forget, we are all human, hence think very similar. Fear affects us all the same way..it is just a matter of what we do with it when it shows up.

Act as if....

Wise words that were told to me by a spiritual teacher.

The enemy that once resided in my own mind was the only one I could not vanquish.. Had to make peace with it.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy .

To be trapped in ones head with an enemy so vile can have a certain effect on life, for sure.

you tell me about the bad life you've ever experienced, but the fear of revealing it. I also feel the same way that you write in this poem.
your opinion is great for this life.

My life has not been bad. Effectively it's been a ride in which I mostly chose the direction to travel sometimes without realizing the consequence awaiting just down the road. If I'm lucky I'll have another current lifetimes worth of years to live to further explore myself and the world. Cheers man. <3

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” --Sun Tzu

We are in a perpetual battle with ourselves. If we do not know ourselves, we cannot win that battle either.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” --Cherokee Parable

Once we know ourselves and commit to the battle, we must conquer the "evil" wolf.

Warriors understand the fight and embrace it. It is part of their ethos.

Thanks for sharing this with me. The Sun Tzu quote I'd not read before.. Where does it come from?

The second Cherokee story I'd heard before. It's an effective way of conveying the idea for sure.

You've earned yourself a follower good sir. Appreciate this comment more than my vocabulary through text will be able to show.

Thank you! I am actually writing my next post, and yours and my reply to it was my inspiration.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu is well worth reading. I also recommend people interested in his work also check out other Chinese authors such as Sun Bin.

Ah! I figured Art of War from the author name but figured I'd ask. Thanks man.

The sharing of knowledge and wisdom the internet provides is lost on many, but not you or I. :)

So true. We are our own worst enemy... or maybe our model of the reality we build in mind is wrong?

Certainly can be at times. Reality is a funny thing, I do agree that we have the ability to model it somewhat with our will.. The whole wrong reality model bit makes sense if we follow the duality ideal I guess, personally more of a "everything simply is" type mind.

Is this the lyrics of song or poetry? ;)

I'm a piss poor poet and a somewhat undeveloped songwriter.. XD

Awesome
Pleace check my post 😊

Good poem

You probably weren't even a good enemy.
A really good nemesis can bring out the best in you.

That made me laugh a bit. Thank you. Not sure if need nemesis though.. Hopefully not.

Hopefully you can stop being your enemy, and start being a friend, a collaborator. Your biggest support group. ^_^

(me too)

learn please

Upvote for you @klye

Thanks drt.. I see you're cheetah banned? What happened?

You can appeal against those I believe.. Just stop doing whatever it was to get you on the list in the first place.
