"An Armistice Day Lament" by Duncan Cary Palmer

in poetry •  7 years ago

I abhor seeing politcians turn up to lay a wreath in front of the cameras at Remembetance Day, Anzac Day, Armistice Day, Veterans Day or whatever it is called in each country. THEY are the class that sent other men's sons off to fight THEIR wars, while they kept their own sons safe at hone. Other men's sons who, if they came hone at all, came home broken, physically, emotionally or both. It matters not whether you are Australian, American, English, German, Japanese or any other, the grief of loss should not be intruded upon by the political class.
