This World… (an original poem)

This World…

We live in a world
that expects
something of you
it demands certain things
of which there's nothing
you can do

the moral obligation
to defend
what is true
a social accountability
to see it through

a beautiful balance
hangs
by a thread
of our
fears, hopes and dreams

believing in the future
informed by the past
engaging
in the moment
desiring something more

denying the whole
in place
of its parts
defies what is possible
before you can start

searching for answers
in a world
filled with questions
without understanding
what we seek

trusting in something
more
than who you are
relies on a belief
greater than you know

having a vision
beyond what we see
navigating a landscape
never
walked on before

deciding to stand
for
more than yourself
the acceptance
of possibility

discovering the layers
that reside
below
the weak
unforgiving mind

bucking the system
when things go awry
requires responsibility
to what is
still unknown

but..,
no matter how hard
you try --
you can't live in this world
and not be part of it.
