For Me

Bear my bones and flesh
yet before I come to be;
with great pain, bring me to the light
of my own day.
Cradle, feed, and love me for-ever.
Give me all but your name.

Trust me and allow me to be
my own way,
even if you have not been so allowed.
When I turn from son to husband,
stand by me and cherish me,
pray for me if I’m sick,
and forget me that day
if I leave--But you shall leave me not.
Just let me be me, and you shall be with me.

                                                And when I turn
                                                from husband to father,
                                                obey, respect, and serve me.
Take care of me and keep my will
if I’m too old or too dead to speak.
Struggle with my want of freedom
swept by years and old age aches.

                                                Whatever I may turn into,
                                                be there for me.
Be the man I can be not.
Take my hand and watch me,
                                                watch me turn into
                                                God.

Thanks for reading

A beautiful piece of love and devotion-based passion. Excellent:)

A great poem, @marlyncabrera, that invites us not to transmit our fears to the generations that come after us. It reminds me of the conception of God that Rainer Maria Rilke proposes to us when he says that God is the best thing that we are going being. Thus human history would be nothing other than the preparation of God. Very much in the same direction as your poem, Rilke once wrote: "Why don’t you think of Him as the one who is coming, who has been approaching from all eternity, the One who will someday arrive, the ultimate fruit of a tree whose leaves we are?"

Thanks for your thorough and thoughtful comment, @yomismosoy

Indeed, God is the ultimate state of all matter and idea, I think.

Take my hand and watch me,
watch me turn into
God.

Spectacular. I love the empowerment that this expression gives off and, in general, the tone of the whole poem. Excellent creation, dear @marlyncabrera.

Thank you, @zeleiracordero ☻ I love the way you point out the most subtle matters. Much appreciated ♥
