Throwback Poem-Off: Basic Premise (Original Poetry)

in poetry •  7 years ago

We shall see what direction this one takes us as the poem-off between @uniwhisp and I continues on its epic path!

You can read my counterpart's latest entry here: Spring Cardinal

What I really love about this little challenge is as I rediscover works from the past and recall the exact topic or emotion they were written about; while knowing they can be interpreted as many different things depending on the reader. This one in particular drives on the for me.

@uniwhisp feel free to take it a completely different direction if you like :-)

Game.....err, Poem On!

Basic Premise

Sky's go out in a flash of bad
Confusion sets in common folk
As threats come to their land
Coming back to the basics
Nothing else will ever compare

A denomination of one
Protecting the basic premise
Found lying under the sun

Cyclical cleansing comes again
Clear sky, seen up ahead
Tendencies of the norm back in place
The foundations of life
Once again, can barely save face

Denomination branching out
The basic premise is forgot about
But it feels like home, for the masses
Where they once were

What's a poem-off, you ask? A challenge between @uniwhisp and I to see if we can go turn-for-turn and repost some of our long lost poems from the vaults of time. No rules apply, and new stuff might just make the mix!

Regards,
Mitchell J

This is a bit cryptic, and I wonder what the motivation for writing came from. It reminds me of a few of mine...I'll hopefully get one picked and posted in the next couple of days. :) Thanks for keeping it interesting! :D

Kind of why I went with it, comes across abstract a bit which opens it for different interpretation for each person. Also, kind of lets you go whatever direction your mind takes you with it.

I'll tell you what it was actually about after you post, don't want to impact the route you go. No rush at all :-)

I actually just dm'd you asking...but I wanted to post uninfluenced first anyway...which I just did! :D

The poem is actually about american society post 9/11. How the event rallied every into patriotic pride and togetherness and then how that slowly subsided as the event drew further in the distance.

And yeah, lol. Timing. I'm scrambling to get stuff done before running to a meeting so gots to keep discord closed ;-)

Ah, nice. Well done, and poignant observations. Have a great night!
