If He Heals

in poetry •  6 years ago

The physician thinks that if he heals his patients,
he is free of afflictions himself.
The people say why do people even do that!?
as if they’re not people themselves.
The ignorant one says ignorance is a disease
as if a physician has, or even can, cure him of it.
the leaf fall from its tree, as if there’s a solitary delectation
with the floor, which the company of her sisters cannot provide.
The sick, in convalescence, swears to appreciate health more
if he should recover. But the recovered cannot know the ache
of the bone as he once did.
The physician says Physician Heal Thyself!
Mr. Caliban, sir, do you want your face
in a mirror, or not? (Even the medium needs a medium)
A little to the left is all that’s left.
A bit to the right will make it right.
So that even if we fall short at last,
The means shall justify the end.
