1/12/94 Pholela Cave. Altitude 2080m. Beneath the Giants Cup – Hodgsons Peaks

in poetry •  7 years ago

We may enjoy our success
after we have come to terms
with those we have stood on.
The mountains we climb,
we stand on
and there is peace
between the baboons, the Basotho,
the bushman and mlungu mabili.

Smooth flat rock, glossed flowers
whispering crags, spirited calling
inhaled, suspended in the sky,
we hear the voices of other times
telling their secrets,
in the earth, rock, water and sky;
exhale.
This harmony is brief.
