Poetry Slam Challenge #2: (Joyful Heart)

in poetry •  8 years ago

Contained, a crumbling shell

I yearn for escape

Not here to dwell.

Entering every day

Scratched uniforms, hard hands

What's to be my way?

Pain swells, febrile cries.

Stays sweet sleep

when I close my eyes.

Grating birdsong heralds dawn

Tears with gruel

For carrying on

Daily pills, nodding head

Docile smiles

And palmed instead

My tiny friends, their siren call

The time now

A choice? no choice at all

beeps blending, a continual whine.

losing grip

on this tawdry time

pain lessening, darkening sight.

with joyful heart

I slip into the night

I love the rhythm to this poem and your word choice is wonderful. The imagery was a little weak, but you made up with creating feelings and sounds instead. Thank you for sharing. :)

Just wondering, where do I find the information for each challenge?

Thank you! Imagery evoked by the poem itself or iimagery as in images used in the poem?

If images that was a tough one, you have to do original artwork or photos for each one and I had to run around the house taking photos of different things to try and get something relevant. The pills are chewing gum lol!
If imagery evoked by the poem then I shall try harder on my next one :-)

If you follow @prufarchy you will see on their page the poetry slam notice :-) the terms for this one are in the winners announcement for poetry slam 1

The imagery evoked by the poem, the photographs are wonderful.
Your editing skills are great. :)

Thank you for the information. :)

Lol! Silly me, I feel like a bit of a doofus. Yes the imagery is intentionally sparse in this one (obvs I would say that:-)). In fact its sparse in a lot of my writing! Thank you for commenting, its nice not to feel I am blowing in the wind on steemit!

Great imagery, I am going to enter this too! Good luck!
