The Terror of a Bird Made Whole

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

You find a bird
With broken wing
Mangled little thing

Your heart is moved
To heal the wound
The bird sees doom

Cowers from touch
That hurts so much
You feel the creatures pain

Do your tears fall, like gentle rain?

Frenzied flapping
Beak that's snapping
Only half the wings span
As you reach your giant hand

Do not cry
Or back away
Nor let the bird flounder
Give up thoughts that say
Easier just to drown her.

You are the cause of pain
But
Touch is not in vain
