A Traveller's Choice

in poetry •  7 years ago  (edited)

I was at a loss, for lack of choices
Or rather, the load of them
The path to be taken unclear
Delusions swayed my heart
Illusions my eyes
The path to the left
Or the path to the right?
Or ignore them all and take
The path in front?

Choices are necessary
Yet incapacitating as while the road
Hits a pothole
The mind is ever at unease
As regret swarms like a hive stirred;
Yet perhaps beyond the pothole
Is a paved path excellent.
Yet who knows?
For beyond a pothole may be another
And yet another and perhaps
The very end that all fear.

Or should I be a traveller
Traversing the paths unseen
Unheard of, virtually unknown
Where I might come across the skeletons
Of those who preceded me
And fell, a warrior of humanity
And perchance be one that
A successor might stumble across

The road behind me crumbled,
I could not turn back
I waited, still at a loss,
My mind unsteady, unsure
