eclipse: an asteroid to the sun

ECLIPSE:

AN ASTEROID TO THE SUN

i
feel
your pull
endlessly,
holding me, as i,
circling you distantly,
spin wildly,
presenting my charms
quickly
and turning away,
to hide them as
if a shy
paramour.

My charms,
though
i appear a
cold chunk of rock
in the black,
are myriad. Perhaps
i can present you
with a hidden wealth
of minerals, cosmic gold,
perhaps gems, unheard of,
alien in their magnificence.
Perhaps i can offer you
a new home.
A hollowed out
haven of warmth
in the heart of me,
to hold and
protect
from the
frigid
darkness.,
As i am
cradled, albeit
at a distance,
in your orbit,
i offer an
amazing and
terrifying history;
explosive
and replete with
thousands of years
of travel,
through strange dangers
and vast stretches
of emptiness
until you
appeared
on an
unseen
horizon.

Your
energies,
snare me,
out of my
solitude,
pulling me
forward,
closer,
and
closer;
and i
become
trapped by
your
gravity,
that metaphysical
force, like love,
working from afar,
as it draws
disparate
bodies
together;
making them
affect one
another, though
separate,
from that point
onwards,
for eternity.

i
fall into
a wide spiral,
being drawn ever
nearer
until
i
am
captured
completely
in your control.
Never to be apart
from your influence
again.
here
i am,
Spinning
helplessly,
no one part
staying in
your view
long
enough
either
to
blossom
or
melt;

but
still drawn
towards you
expectantly
with
the hope of
warmth.
