Past the senses

Standing guard was not enough
to avoid the deceiving heart.
Lies told are not to blame,
it is the ear that listens at fault.
Two it takes to be complicit,
though no words need be explicit
for the fall from the ledge
to the earth below.

Unaware of your stare,
to the last of your attention.
You caught my eye and gone was I
Destroyed by the small affection.
Blindness caused mistake and saw,
Kindness that wasn't there.
Smiling you drew me in
finger twirling through the hair.

Simplicity is the key,
forward along the path you led,
into dark alleys to where,
knife took life unspared.
How can this now be,
where all I had is gone,
Stolen by silent hands
and promises long broken.

Still I await the day,
the sunshine of which you spoke.
Walking hand in hand
along the green boulevards.
Why did you target me
to lay down your plans
You could have chosen any,
any other man.

I read your poem at least three times indeed interesting. It makes me wonder what you were thinking that inspired you to write this. Nicely done thanks

Beautiful. Moral of the story: Don't trust too much...or always be on guard

Is a very beautiful poem and every line has different meanings. Each line reflects the reality of life
