Throwback Poem-Off: Gentle Pride [original poem]

in poetry •  7 years ago

The poem-off has gone from fast and furious to slow but steady! In @mitchelljaworski's last entry, he talks of second chances. I wasn't sure what to choose from my dwindling selection of poems-from-the-past, but I found one that I wrote while contemplating trying to rekindle a lost love.

Read @mitchelljaworksi's poem, Last Chance is the First, and my reply below:

Gentle Pride

What gentle pride have I
That in my sorrowed wand'rings
Shall often hide, wait standing by
As I dream of dreadful, daunting things

What gentle pride have I
That wanes and waxes as the moon
which watches silently as I cry
Imagining a time that will come soon

My gentle pride that lies within
When I reveal to him my heart
Shall retreat and all but let him win
If he wishes to stay apart

My gentle pride that lies within
Will bear witness to his claim
But that scared, lost girl that I had been
Is no longer here to blame

Oh gentle pride, that knows me
If I dare to have such nerve
Let me face him, not turn and flee
When he gives the pain that I deserve.

Thanks for reading!

What's a poem-off, you ask? Just a little thang that started a little bit ago. I read a poem that @mitchelljaworski posted, from his old-school writing days. It reminded me of all of my old-school poems, so I challenged him to see if we could go turn-for-turn and repost long lost words from the vaults of time. No rules apply, and new stuff might just make the mix. Check it out, y'all. Follow the links down the rabbit hole...

O beautiful gentle pride 👌

:)

How touching, tender and gentle just like your gentle pride. I felt it, enjoyed it and experienced it in my mind. Loved it and featuring it in my curation post today.

Oh thank you so much! How sweet of you. <3
