Free Verse: First Snow Day

in poetry •  6 years ago

snow

White whirlwinds twist and dance,
a thick snow cover merges with the horizon
and hides the forest’s notched edge.

How could I bargain winter’s austere beauty
for never-ending summer? To renew itself,
life needs to cease for a time.

All movements stop,
all sounds fade away,
all ties break,
and every grain lies frozen in the earth.

Light plunges into the darkness,
from which it has been created.
And when its last defender falls,
a new, immortal light will shine from the depths.

Then everything that had an end
will get a new beginning,
and what pretended to never die
has never been alive.
