Today I am reading sonnet XVI from Pablo Neruda's collection 100 Love Sonnets.
Neruda, a Chilean poet, wrote an incredible amount of poetry during the early to mid-1900s. Much of his work has not been translated to English, and if I could read Spanish better, I would have read the Spanish version of this poem, too.
While most people know Neruda for his love poetry, his later writing was also very political. He was a communist, and because of his out spoken views, he was forced to flee from his home country and live in exile for several years.
