Was anyone expecting the Pokemon Go’s big success? I wasn’t.
I know. Pokemon is like the popular guy in the Pocket Monster Franchise School. Almost every young person in our society has played Pokemon at some time in their lives. The game is in a very privileged position: every version causes almost the same emotion in the old and new players. The Pokemon Generation grows every time since Red and Blue.
This Generation is the main target. I don’t doubt common people could play the game (the hype is like fire, it expands and expands in a blow), but the main audience is the person that chose a starter in one of the game’s versions and decided to be a Pokemon Master.
And surprise: the number of people making this decision in life is enormous. As well as veteran gamers as casual gamers. Every game’s version gains new fans, new people into the Pokémon World (my first starter was Chikorita, I didn’t arrive on time to the first game).
The game is now in Australia, United States, Europe and Canada. Every launching comes with a wave of young people, not just children, walking in the streets, places, libraries, parks, looking for digital creatures.
I lived the experience last Sunday. Two cousins and I were walking in the Queens Quay West in Toronto at night. We found that almost every young person in the place was doing the same as us. Looking for pokemon and pokestops. Capturing pokemon. I’m not talking about two or three guys, but a lot of people. Thousands of people. All of us under one same game.
There’re millions people that are looking for catch them all, and Pokemon Go isn’t still in many places in the world (as countries in Asia and Latinoamerica). This is just a beginning. Pokemon Go is going to rule the world.
