That was the US release I remember it a full year before. As I was pregnant with my oldest daughter when I first saw the red and green release of Pokemon, on a military base from someone who just came back from Japan had brought back some cards and he was selling them in a rummage sale. I bought some and gave them to my nephew for Christmas that year. My daughter was born in August of 1996 that is the only reason I remember what year it was.
