As expected, Niantic has started to launch Generation Four Pokemon into the mobile game Pokemon Go. Generation Four consists of Pokemon from the Sinnoh Region which were originally released in Pokemon games Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. After releasing a teaser last week, we have started to see small waves of new Pokemon spawns appear in the wild.
It seems as Niantic will take the same approach they took for Generation Three as the first wave only includes a handful of Pokemon such as Turtwig and Chimchar. We would expect they continue to add more in waves as the next couple of weeks and months go by and Niantic uses holidays to release them into the game. In their news section, they mention that these new Pokemon could be found in the wild but also can be hatched from eggs walked and caught after battling Raids at gyms. They also announced that there will be additional news regarding changes to existing and new features like Pokemon storage and more.
Niantic continues to capitalize on the momentum they have created from the Summer events as they add content to the game. I think they will continue as the launch of the new Nintendo Switch games featuring Pokemon is set to release in November. We know that the new Pokemon Meltan is somewhat related to that release but will have crossover with Pokemon Go in an effort to promote the new games. It will be interesting to see how fast they release all of Generation Four given the amount of Pokemon from previous generations that have new evolutions in the new generation. Go catch them all!
