Getting through the lame duck period.

I'm beyond any illusion that the potential exists for bipartisan cooperation on anything in Washington. The best suggestion I've seen for Democrats during the transition is this:

Come up with a clean plan - not 1100 pages of pork - for what they want to do with COVID and recovery. Massively expanded free testing, contact tracing, funding, unemployment, guaranteed quarantine leave with pay, isolation hotels free for whoever opts in, temporary revenue support for impacted businesses, the whole thing. Draft it in public every step of the way.

Get all 48 incoming senators to sign a pledge to eliminate the filibuster and pass this bill in their first week. Welcome any Republicans who want to work together. Ditto with a majority of the house.

Get both senate candidates in Georgia to sign on. Make the campaign a referendum on the Democrats' COVID and financial recovery plan...so it better be a good one.

It makes good use of the lame duck period, lets states that care to start planning to hit the ground running, gives us a good shot at controlling the senate, and gives the country our best shot at finally getting COVID under control so we can move on, and not be staring at these same numbers in June while waiting for vaccines to be manufactured.
