The Headline that this report doesn't mention is that 19 of the 20 fiscally health states voted trump. I think the voters believe that this will bring the other voters "into line" of fiscal responsibility. The fact is that fiscally healthy states will eventually have to subsidize the chronic over-spenders.

Who you vote for often reflects your values. These fiscally healthy states voted trump.

Huh, I was skeptical of this at first, but this seems like some solid information based on good criteria.

As a leftie it's kind of annoying. I want balanced budgets and social spending funded by a tax xode that meets the needs of those programs. Most left leaning politicians refuse to tax accordingly.

If your state or country can't afford, or doesn't want, the taxation to cover the programs you're offering then cut the programs. Don't give platitudes, run a deficit and then pretend that it's a necessary evil. Figure out where your constituents actually draw the line then act on it!

It is not about left/right it is about fiscal responsibility. I always ask how we can pay for something (whatever we intend to spend $$ on) before I will consider a vote. We have to factor in what other thing we CAN'T afford to do if we spend this money. No entity (short of the national government) has unlimited funds.

I spend a lot of time consensus polling to see if my decisions reflect those of the people that elected me. I appreciate your candor. I don't think you should find it annoying, rather you should see it as a natural outcome of the system. At one point those being taxed (producers) will want wise spending.
