Chicago introduces a tax on online gaming, is this how cryptocurrency will be discouraged?

in politics •  8 years ago

According to the Finance Department changes, the 9 percent amusement tax, which has mostly been tacked onto tickets to concerts and sporting events, also now applies to paid subscriptions for streamed digital music and to streamed rental movies or TV shows, and "for the privilege of participating in games, on-line or otherwise," if the person paying to receive the data is in Chicago.

If they can tax amusement then they can tax online gaming? If they can tax online gaming then they can tax the cloud? If they can tax the cloud then they can tax the blockchain?

So the local governments in the future might levy a tax on all blockchain use for anyone who resides within the United States.
Local governments which want to discourage use of the blockchain, or violent video games, or "the privilege of participating in games", can use the Chicago model as a template.

Gaming communites and blockchain communitis have more interests aligned and a lot more in common than they realize.

Amusement tax, lol. They're the ones amused, laughing all the way to the bank. Are they gonna start taxing YouTube and Spotify and Apple streaming. I'd move to another state in a heartbeat. They can have their gun crime and fun tax

We should argue that they aren't entertaining, we just pay for it for some weird reason.

You have to ask, what are the citizens in Chicago doing, when they let their government just implement these things without protesting about it? If they tried to implement it where I live, my whole city would just "stop".... and people would be freaking out.

with crypto you can just say you live in another country

Wow, absolutely disgusting. All I hear from governments is "MORE, MORE, MORE!!!" while the only things returned back to the citizen is "LESS, LESS, LESS!!!"

Losing faith in this country more and more each day. We have some serious recovery to do as a population . . . We need to civically engage our government. THEY are supposed to work for US, not the other way around.

Vote with your feet. Move out of those areas with high taxes. Lots of minnisotans did just that when Amazon affiliate programs were made unavailable due to minnisota's taxing of the program.

It's called Capitol flight.

i do not like where its going. Could be disastrous for a lot of protected areas. Not only that but %9 is crazy. Like you said though, whats next? They may find loopholes to tax just about everything soon.

If taxation without consent is robbery, the United States government has never had, has not now, and is never likely to have, a single honest dollar in its treasury. If taxation without consent is not robbery, then any band of robbers have only to declare themselves a government, and all their robberies are legalized.

thanx for providing sources to double check this. can't believe this. Won't tech giants fight against this?

Taxation is theft, the more they try to rob users of cryptocurrency the more it will prove the necessity of them.

Illinois a good example of what not to do. People are leave. Pensions will implode... eventually.

Governments or their handlers just want a piece of the action. Where there is money there is money to be made. Who can blame them.

Typical greedy government.. they will find anyway and anything to tax ya for.. "Hey ya'll having too much fun" - amusement tax.. Didn't we go to War over Tea way back in the day?

I've read that even the emerging economies like India are planning to regulate and implement tax on capital gains made on investments in cryptocurrency...I don't think this is a right move since blockchain functioning is based on the fundamental of de-centralization and if the government starts imposing its rules and regulations, it will certainly defeat the purpose of blockchain.

In that case, it will go underground.

Wow is this another illustration of Trump making America great again?

crazy!

This is not good .....

Chicago is one of the most corrupt places in America.
