Why I Think The World is Guilty of Complicity in the War in Syria

in politics •  8 years ago  (edited)

It is absolutely unbelievable that the world has allowed Syria to degenerate into a country completely brought to ruins by the greed and ambition of one man who feels entitled to rule a nation at all cost. This great historic country has been brought to ruins as many factions now struggle to take control different parts of the country.

I am angry within my spirit man that the world leaders started about five years ago by gallivanting around the world holding meetings on Syria but five years later, the end of the war is now more far fetched than when it began! When leaders go to the table, they do so with complete bias regarding this issues, hence a stalemate all the time. The level of violence has increased many folds and truly unbelievable.

Bashar al-Assad has made up his mind that he will continue to rule that nation by force even if there is only one person left as a citizen. Yes, Syria is a sovereign state and direct interference in the governance of a state by foreign powers shouldn't arise but not when a whole nation is about to be levelled simply because of the ambitions of one man

The dynamics and intrigues involved has made it possible for Russia to manoeuvre its way into taking a lead in this conflict in their support of al-Assad. How the whole world is watching and allowing Russia inflict this kind of carnage in the name of fighting ISIS and "terrorists" still bits me! Europe on its own, seemed to be paying lip service to the war until millions of refugees started invading her borders, risking their lives travelling on the Mediterranean. A classical case of Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) you would say. It is such a shame.

A times I wonder whether the super power status Russia used to have is what is being reclaimed at any chance, first in Ukraine, then Georgia and more. Putin had been looking for an opportunity to flex his muscles globally and no better opportunity to do so than the conflict in Syria. If the world had unitedly moved swiftly, ISIS would never have been born in the first place and the many innocent lives that have been lost would still be alive today.

It kills me to say that the United Nations has been completely lacking in leadership and judgement in this matter. This so called instrument of world "peace" seems to be lacking in the will power to do much these days. It has become completely toothless, barking without any action. It doesn't even seem to have the proper instruments and channels through which these incessant conflicts can be dealt with. All the time, the leaders come up with one UN resolution or the other that is eventually disregarded by the parties involved. North Korea for example has consistently defied the UN, flouted the rules and made nonsense of all that can be brought about as sanctions. The people suffer, yes, but the leaders who control the resources of the nations are always immune to the sanctions and their effects.

If care is not taken, the Syrian war will degenerate and go down in history as the war where the world folded its arms and allowed carnage and destruction to flow freely.

Can the United Nations please step up to the plate? Is it until all the innocent civilians, men, women and children, have been completely annihilated before the world will wake up to its responsibilities? In the aftermath of World War II, the world made a vow of "Never Again", after recording a scandalous death toll of close to 80 million people (and about 6 million Jews). If care is not taken, this may just be a precursor to the start of a world war that will surpass the last in mass and casualties. I hope the world wakes up now!

Bashir Al Assad ?
Huh?
I thought you were talking about Hillary Clinton.

Its says something telling, when an article about the genuine suffering of a nation of people in true dire straights, is trivialised to take a weak political shot. I think the US election needs to be over, the sooner the better.

I take it you don't approve.
Damn.. I'm so ashamed....I should have asked you to vet my statement first.
For what it's worth the election was over when Trump got the nomination.

Thanks @scalextrix for your comments. Those words are so true. It is quite unfortunate to hear issues like Donald Trump's tapes making the headlines while far more important issues are relegated to the background. What a world! What a world!!

You mean important issues like the Wikileaks releases that further prove the US in general and Hillary Clinton in specific have given money, weapons, and training to ISIS, who is the chief force fighting against President, Dr. Bashar al-Assad?

@everittdmickey, guess I can safely conclude that you are not her fan.

It shows huh?

with a special bias!

Aww Shucks Ma' am.
Nothing special.
I'm Just plain folks.

Your ignorance of global and regional politics and history is apparent. Assad is a secular leader beloved by the majority of his nation's people. Most of the forces arrayed against him are terrorist organizations that even the US is "at war with," and most of their fighters come from outside of Syria.

If Assad steps down or is otherwise removed from power his secular government that protects all religions and women to boot, will at best be replaced by a singular Islamic state, or at worst, a series of small states that will perpetuate the fighting.

If I could downvote a post for misinformation and factual mistakes this would receive such a downvote.

Thanks for your comment @erebus. The fact remains that he is tending to being as bad as his father, if not worse. The world knows that the dynamics of governance in the middle east is as complex as complex can be. Regime change in any of the states will always bring about destabilisation. But it still begs the question whether these leaders have the right to rule by torture and iron fist in this day and age just to keep the nations together. If there will be a break up into smaller entities of people who are able to govern themselves, so be it. There is simply no need to force them to remain under one umbrella particularly when there is a perception that a minority ethic group with population of far less than 20 percent a times rules over a majority ethic group. By any standard that will always lead to trouble. For a while they can get away with it, simply because the force of government both military and financial is in there hands.

No one is misinforming anybody. Egypt is a secular state, it still went through its own share of the Arab spring as well. Change as deeply rooted as removing dictators who have held the reigns for twenty, thirty and in some cases over forty years while the people do not have any form of freedom expression is always brutal, but at the end of the day, the sacrifice is always worth it. Everyone knew for instance that Gaddafi was sitting on a keg of gun powder with all the forces he put on the leash. He ruled Libya with such mercilessness, kept the "terrorists" under check and the people couldn't do anything. The West is also guilty of complicity in that failed nation because as long as Gaddafi was putting a lid on his borders with Europe and other "things", they turned a blind eye to all his atrocities.

Do you honestly believe that the so called people who love him (Assad) and sing his praises will still do so if they are truly given a freedom of choice? I don't think so.
So, there is more to this than meets the eye. Once again, no one is trying to misinform anyone. And ultimately, no one is indispensable except the creator. If he (al-Assad) leaves the world stage today, the world will move on.

You have never been to Syria. Please note this was a statement, and not a question. If you had been to Syria you would see it is the only regional state where people of every religion are equal and protected under law. You would also know that it is the only nation in which women can dress as they want, go where they want, date who they want, etc, regardless of religion (in israel only jewish women have these legal rights). And again, you seem to miss the fact that most of the anti-Assad rebels are foreign fighters who belong to groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups. Meanwhile, Syrian civilians make up groups that assist government forces.

You need to stop with your imperialistic anti-truth bullshit.

There is absolutely no need to get personal here sir! Whatever strong views you have for or against an argument it can be passed across without getting personal or vehemently attacking the opinions of others. Please note that. Thanks for your contribution.

The world is made this situation in Syria. And before in Afganistan ,Iraq ,Tunisia , Lybia , Egipt ,Yemen... list is long. They dont care , every country with natural resources ( oil ) is geting demolished and invaded by so called peace keepers of the free world (US and England followed by others) . Imperialists minds leading those countryes. Check history facts , Europeans had cleaned Africa,Asia from wealth in last 400 years. They are doin it again.
US for me in this moment is no different from Nazi Germany , killers , invaders thieves. And all under "patriotizm". Patriot defends his own country on his own teritory , not by invading others . It is not people's fault , i love people from US it is a government of US that makes such moves.

It is a war for oil,
you can shift to renewables.
