I think we are only one huge news story away from finding out just how bad a president Donald Trump can really be.
No one is inherently wrong just because they disagree with you…
Start with the most basic facts and look at this from the most basic level - to get on the same page, both sides have to at least agree on and get that out of the way first. When someone has an opinion on something, that person is not at fault for not agreeing with someone else who holds an opposite opinion. The idea itself, that someone has an opinion on something is itself predicated on the notion that they disagree with the other person who holds a different opinion.
Hmmmm...
So far after almost a year in office (266 days, 9 hours, 48 minutes to be exact) it has been pure chaos. The work of governing the country is not getting done, most government agencies are barely adequately staffed, the president spends most of his time in a pursuit to burnish his own imaginary grandeur, and the news cycles are filled with story after story demonstrating exactly that.
This is an objective fact - don’t just take my word for it, do your own homework and see for yourself.
People’s reactions to Trump are reflective of the state of mind everyone appears to be in (including the press) when listening to him speak. We have begun to take potentially the most serious things in the world - and not take them seriously. It’s very upside down, and it seems to me to be quite dangerous considering the potential consequences of his actions.
I believe in the end he is going to surprise even the most pessimistic people, and not at all in a positive way.
My greatest concern is what happens with the next terrorist attack – ultimately I can’t help but to think it’s inevitable that something else is going to happen. Presume another 911 type event happens, or something extreme happens with North Korea or China, or Russia, or Iran, or in any one of the hundred political hotspots around the world. Perhaps the pressure of such an event would potentially normalize him as commander in chief, but the pressure would be much greater than it is now and the pressure is already nearly overwhelming to him - judging from the latest revelations coming directly from his inner circle at the white house.
The real fear is that if we have another world trade center type attack, how unhinged from terrestrial reality will Trump become? There’s no telling how strange things could get with a massive negative stimulus to the system. What we do know for sure is that we have someone in charge who is a malignantly selfish con artist with very little regard for anything other than his own interests - and that is as obvious a thing about him as his orange hair. Determining how far down the proverbial rabbit hole he could lead us, can only be limited by a deliberate lack of effort.
The argument could be made that in the face of any such extreme circumstance, Trump could rise to the occasion – even if only inadvertently so. If he were to start doing whatever was necessary, to address whatever challenge presented to him, in the best interest of the country and the world, well that would be fantastic and I would be the first person to commend him for doing so.
It is theoretically possible he would indeed start doing “the right thing” for whatever reason, or no reason at all – his motives wouldn’t even matter ultimately as long as he was doing the right thing. His motives are however reliably predicated on self interest, so even when faced with tragedy or disaster any logical person could be reasonably certain his motives would not be in their best interest, or for the greater good of the country overall.
One thing I think we can be reasonably certain of regardless of the circumstance - is Trump will likely make every effort to clamp down on civil liberties even further, obstruct any efforts to implement progressive policies, and to abuse the power of the presidency in every way possible to enrich himself and the business interests supporting his regime. Many of the actions already taken have been done in such a way that it may already have become very difficult (if not impossible) for our society to reverse or recover from them.
It’s a scary moment in history and I for one am terrified at the prospect of four years with this despicable person at the helm. There are many people (much smarter than I) who are drawing analogies between Trump's rise to power and what happened to Germany in the nineteen thirties. I guess there was the same irrational nonsense during the Obama administration, so I try not to pay too much attention to it.
I want to believe the analogies are inaccurate or misleading in some way, but with each crazy thing he does, and each new revelation into what he has already done, it becomes that much harder to dismiss the correlation.
Every day I hope there’s something positive I can grab hold of to maintain my faith in our system – and every day I am disappointed. As a person with thirty years in the construction trades, I would love to see Trump announce something like say a massive infrastructure project that includes building new things that will benefit every American, not just his buddies in the coal industry. I’m sure fixing our roads and bridges would be a good place to start, and not a single person would criticize him for it.
Better yet let’s build a high speed rail network that will be the envy of the world. Why not really impress upon our enemies and allies alike that we genuinely still are the greatest country on earth. Because right now it is becoming very obvious that the world is just as disgusted with our president as most Americans, and they are showing the willingness to disassociate totally and leave us behind.
… and I believe that to be an objective fact.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing you in the comments…

There is no question in my mind that Donald Trump suffers from the Antisocial Personality Disorder known as sociopathy. He has a mental illness that is difficult to treat. Interestingly, I've read in many sources that sociopaths tend to have a high degree of success in business because they have no concern whatsoever for their victims.
Sociopaths tend to have disregard for the feelings and concerns of others. They lack empathy. This is incredibly evident in Trumps treatment of hurricane victims in Puerto Rico, his willingness to sexually harass women (grab 'em by the pussy), and his blatant lack of concern for all of the people who will lose medical coverage under his "health care reform" efforts.
The Diagnostics and Statistics Manaul (DSM-V) describes sociopaths as arrogant, callous, aggressive and hostile. We don't need to dig very deeply to see these behaviors being manifested in Trumps treatment of North Korea. Further, sociopaths tend to be irresponsible and recklessly place themselves and others in danger--another astonishing parallel between Trump and sociopathology when we consider how "dangerous" nuclear war can be--yet he irresponsibly plays with it like a cat toy.
Personal relationships of sociopaths are cannon fodder as, they are manipulatively leveraged solely for personal gain. An astonishing number of Trump's cabinet members are no longer in place after what, 266 days? Admittedly it can be stated that a new leader will make changes, but how many of these people were actually Trump-selected? When those people no longer serve his personal agenda, out they go like used tissue.
The link between Donald Trump and sociopathic tendencies seems unending. This article points out characteristics commonly found in sociopathic individuals. We would have to be blind to not notice the hostility linkage with Trump. Recall his bizarre attack on a female news anchor with the "bleeding from" comment, the mocking of a disabled person on national TV, and his Twitler Storm behaviors any time someone disagrees with him. It seems as though his sole agenda in his (poorly-performed) new job is to undo every accomplishment of his predecessor. Perhaps there exists some deep-rooted racism that makes him hostile toward a well-liked and highly-effective black man. Perhaps we will never know. I, for one, will certainly never forget his behavior toward Angela Merkel in the "I Won't Shake Your Hand" incident. The man drips with hostility.
Lastly, the lying. Sociopaths tend to be deceitful. Here's a list of Trump's lies just up to June. The article states that he told a "public lie or falsehood every single day for the first 40 days" in his new job. Jesus. While certainly sick, it is absolutely fascinating to watch Trump deny truth under the guise of "fake news". This new lexicon appears to normalize the outright denial of factual information, to the extent that I want to buy a new saddle for my dinosaur.
In college we were taught that the presence of one personality disorder is generally co-morbid with another. Anyone noticing the narcissism?
This is such a short list exemplifying the bizarre, erratic and sociopathic behaviors of Donald Trump. I'm a stunned to learn that the Steemit platform contains a significant Trump constituency, as you describe @drdave. Why? I admit, I've been around for a few presidencies, and if you asked me up until now I'd say that Bush was by far the worst of the batch (actually, it was Dick Cheney). At least Bush was funny. Trump needs counseling.

@crystalize I actually agree with everything you mention, less one thing - IMHO the constant barrage points to psychopathy rather than sociopathy... (JK - I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV - just to show my age a little bit also) So much so that many psychiatrists, and psychologists are disregarding the Goldwater rule and speaking out...
The ethics of the APA Goldwater rule:

Thank you for the comment - and your input... I wish more people on both sides would engage more in the conversation - I may not be the most enlightened (or smartest) person in the room but "spreading the truth", or my perception of it, is at least something ...

Hi @drdave. I'm not sure what is happening here, but my original response to your comment appears "greyed out" in my comments list. Does this mean that I have been flagged or downvoted simply for expressing my opinion in a censorship-free social media platform? If so, this creates the chilling effect that will likely impact peoples interest in having any form of discourse that deviates from popular opinion.

Hi @crystalize ... Im not sure what you're seeing on your end - I have your original reply as the first one on my end. (beginning with "There is no question...") It doesn't look like you were flagged or down voted - maybe you just minimized it on the page... IDK.?.?.? Try clicking on the +/- on the right of the comment to see if it comes back to normal...
Please let me know what happens with that... I am a little bummed that I'm only able to give you (.07 / 100% upvote) IMHO that comment is worth SOOOO much more - as are all of the comments on this post!!! I wish I could do more... The interactions I have gotten from this post are the best yet here on Steemit - and I want to continue to elicit responses from people regardless of their political direction or if they agree or disagree.
As a side note: since posting this series on Trump, I have been un-followed and muted more than the whole rest of my time on the platform... In typical fashion people will flee from anything contradictory to their world view... To use a quote directly from the orange buffoon "SAD"...!!! I must be doing something right...
I am however working on something BIG for November that's going to give my/our perspective a little more "influence"... It amazes me that a place designed around truth inherent to it's basic principals (the mighty blockchain), is filled with so much blatantly false information - and no one is out there calling it out... That's an objective fact, not just my opinion - choose one or two posts out of the politics tag and do a genuine "unbiased fact check"... See for yourself where Steemit's biases are (politically speaking)
Thanks again for your input (sorry for the rant)... I look forward to seeing you in the comments of my next post... MDG...

Hi @drdave. Yeah, I checked three of my posts and saw they were greyed out but did not see any downvotes, so I have no idea what caused it. I'm fairly new here to Steemit, so still trying to figure it all out.

Knowing that the press cannot be trusted do we have any real idea what is going on or being said?
One of my degrees is in political science and until now and since Ronald Regan I haven't wasted one minute of my time on any election, campaign or administration.
Here is why.
A coup took place in 1871 and The United States of America (written in proper case) collapsed. It has been under the control of a corporation called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (written in all capital letters) ever since. That corporation went bankrupt in 1933. At that time, the IRS was formed by the Bank of International Settlement in Basal, Switzerland to oversee the bankruptcy. Other minions of the BIS are the DHS, FBI and all state and local "law enforcement" agencies (there are no laws, just corporate statutes and codes).
Instead of playing into the divisive liberal vs. conservative dichotomy I suggest you get the facts about where we live so you can truly understand what is going on. Because, until all of us are free from the banksters, none of us can be free.

@doc.hodes I would tend to agree with you regarding most of your assertions, accept:
... There is a false equivalency in saying the actions of Donald Trump are the same as any other president - they most certainly are not. What we see today is completely unique in every respect, and the case could be made that his actions are no less destructive than your two examples. I do recognize my own bias when it relates to the actions of all politicians - and even with that recognition I will still choose to point out things as I see them...
When you say:
... I assume that means you are now engaging in the conversation, and for that I am grateful. If more educated Americans had spoken up over the last 80 years rather than "not wasting one minute of their time", we might not be in the mess we are in... But maybe not - I guess we'll never know because so many of the "intelligentsia" chose to do exactly what you did...
Good to have you back - better late than never right... I look forward to hearing more from you... :)

Are you a US Citizen or an American?

@doc.hodes - I'm not sure what direction you want to go with that particular question, but it's an easy one (for me at least). I consider myself to be a citizen of the world who just happens to have been born in The United States (of America)... Anyone born from Newfoundland to the southernmost tip of Chile is also an American, and contrary to the ignorant beliefs of our "dear leader", so are Puerto Rican's, Guaman's, and Virgin Islander's. Maybe it's my own naivete, but I choose to believe most are overwhelmingly proud and consider themselves fortunate regardless of what the orange clown in the white house does or says.
Unfortunately its my observation that many "North American's" - specifically those from the US, have forgotten that fact and their limited worldview tends to consider themselves to be the only "true Americans"... Fortunately I'm not one of them...

First let me say that I really appreciate the dialog. I have been really disappointed with steemit so far because I was hoping to find more people like yourself that can actually think but there are not many.
"Nice post, can you upvote me" just doesn't impress me.
The question was meant to see if you knew there is a difference.
If you register to vote then you are a US Citizen and under contract with the corporate state.
The reason I do not participate in the illusion of democracy is just that. It is an illusion because there is no real government.
The United States of America (note the proper case spelling) no longer exists. It was replaced in 1871 by THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (note the all capital letters) which is a corporation. EVERY "president" since has been appointed by committee and every "president" since George Washington has been a direct descendant of European royalty with the possible exception of Donald Trump. I don't know nor do I care if he is because I do not think it will matter much longer.
Politics, racism, sexism, patriotism and religion are nothing more than distractions meant to keep people divided so that will not see what is really going on.
I identify myself only as human.

Every day we get a new reason to enact the provisions of the 25th amendment. The larger concern is the underlying reasons it has yet to be done. I have discovered most of the Steemit audience has a limited interest in my particular take on our president - so I am very grateful for you and others who show their support... :D...nice post I admit I read it like lil Jon the kangaroo...(jumping on paragraphs quickly) I now see the big picture and the motors that drives the world .. I know Trump! meaning I know why he really ran for president...when he started running for it I remembered 1 image of him while he was being roasted by Obama at that press conference dinner crap..the camera pointed at him and his face was still and not at all appreciative ...the camera still focused on him...still as a rock...looking at Obama with squinting eyes...I knew why he was running..."vindication"! ...He didn't show up at that white house press conference dinner after that ...not even as president! and that's why Trump ran! they won't tell you that anywhere...now he runs around talking about how bad Obama was etc. etc... insulting every thing he made even the Iranian deal..lol
either he let it go by the 2nd year or I really don't see any success at the end of the 4th...
I don't think he will ever act as a real president ...he is just having fun insulting everybody and sadly doing whatever Pence says...
just the same usual menu...
too bad cause we don't get to see a presidential character ...all we see is a once bullied boy... now, with an army that has power over the whole wide world...
which is interesting by itself if you ask me
lol

Very true in every sense.!! :/ I have genuine personal experience with the "Clown In Chief" so i'm slightly more passionate (than I normally would be) when expressing my opinion of him. My opinions are informed by actual facts though - I sat directly across from him on two separate occasions negotiating pricing for Trump Ft. Lauderdale Condominiums. ( actually located in Hollywood Fl.) Fifteen years later I still have vivid memories of how much of a disgusting person he was/is. I would use the term "sleazyness" to describe to my wife after meeting with him, even back then - and however descriptive that term is - still falls short... Thanks for the comments ... They are much appreciated... :)
