Libertarians are the reason why (insert name here) lost!

It happens every time. Those damn Libertarians, who have numbers in just a few million cost whatever candidate that you wanted to win, to not win.

Or that is what Fox News is trying to tell us in yet another trash op-ed piece from them that you can find right here!

I know very little about Jo Jorgensen other than the fact that she is almost certainly a better qualified candidate for the job than one of the other two that is going to get the job. I say this not because I know much about her policy ideas but only because she isn't part of the duopoly that honestly, I think has ruined politics not just in the USA but in almost every other country in the world.

But it isn't about what I think. I remember when 2016 happened the Libertarians were being told over and over again that they were throwing their votes away by voting for Gary Johnson and they were told the same about every other Libertarian candidate whose name I can remember: Badnarick or something like that comes to mind.

The funny thing about all of this is that every single time when an election is close, the 2% of people that chose to vote for a candidate that they actually believe in get blamed when the state goes red or blue.

Here is the quote from some sort of political analyst

“In this election, Libertarian voters could have swung the Electoral College by at least 22 votes by supporting Trump in battleground states Wisconsin, Michigan and Nevada. By throwing away their votes, they’ve likely become spoilers for the Trump reelection effort,”

The article goes on to explain how if only all of the Libertarians had voted for Trump in Wisconsin then Trump would have won. The author of this piece, Hollie McKay (mmmm-kay?) seems to totally miss the point about WHY a Libertarian votes for a Libertarian candidate.

In the past two elections, and to a lessor degree the one before that I remember this same group of people (Libertarians) getting blamed for being the reason why one side or the other didn't. I think that if more people would "throw their votes away" the USA electoral system would be a lot more fair or at least more fun.

Fox News is probably going to be producing a lot of dumb news in the next few months, because I suspect that is around how long it is going to take to figure out who cheated the best to win but this blaming of the usual suspects just makes me mad. Libertarians are NOT Republicans, Fox!

Therefore your article qualifies as our newest entry into the ever-growing pile of news that qualifies as ...

It easier to "blame" libertarians than greens because the latter was successfully taken off ballots by Democrats

Another way to look at it is... Well, if Trump had done more to address libertarian ideals...and frankly it wouldn't have been very hard for him to do...then he might have got those votes. I have three basic things I look for in a candidate: 1) Do they do anything to reduce the budget (and taxes) overall? 2) Do they stay out of pointless and destructive wars or "policing actions" that don't really do anything to support "freedom" or national security in a meaningful way and 3) How are they on civil liberties.

I couldn't check a box by Trump on any of those. Or Biden either.

All good points

I feel like most candidates don't pay any attention to Libertarians and neither does the media except when they try to make them look foolish... which was quite easy for them to accomplish with Gary Johnson because he really lacked any sort of interview / public speaking skills.

In the meantime dumb news is probably going to be VERY EASY to find in the coming months as wild speculation is already starting and will presumably get even worse.
