Honestly I love talking to people about these things, needless to say, I've ruined a lot of parties...Obviously there is a time and a place for these sorts of discussions, however it also has a lot to do with the type of people you choose to surround yourself with, you want to hang out with people you can have REAL discussions with, without devolving into a mud-slinging match, unfortunately that often drives people to just surround themselves with only people who agree with them which doesn't leave a lot of opportunity for correction (which may well be required) resulting in the proverbial echo chamber we all claim to want to avoid. I don't know I have any answers to this issue but look forward conversing with you about it.

Thanks for your comment! I agree, I thought about tying analysis about the echo chamber in here but decided to leave that out for simplicity. That's the really hard part: finding people who will do this push-back against you. My vision is that it becomes common-place for people to be initiating and cultivating these kinds of relationships.

No worries, it's a great post. I think the biggest issue of today is that in order to have reasonable discourse there has to be a mutual respect which doesn't really exist when some stranger from across the globe pipes up from behind the keyboard and tells you that you're wrong about everything you say, (naturally) it immediately puts you off-side and on the defensive, perhaps this is not the ideal response but it tends to be how we respond...Again not sure I have any answers to this, I just like talking about it haha.
