Who Will Care If You Don't? Politics & You!

in politics •  7 years ago

Participating in politics is a lot easier than what most people tend to think.

No, you don't have to go out and be a candidate for office.

All you need to do is to care.

Yes. You read that right, you need to care.

If you care about your kids future, then you will voice your opinions and argue them, you will make sure that your voice gets heard and that you don't settle for anything less than the best that the people you live with agree upon, your neighbours, your friends, your community, to you as an individual and most importantly your loved ones, your family.

How can you get your voice heard?

Local newspaper, local radio talk shows that let listeners call in, letters to your representatives, letters to political parties, letters and leaflets/pamphlets to your neighbours and other relevant parties.

Think about it.

Is voting enough?

Obviously NOT!

Politicians, have to date in many ways abused their positions of power, everything from outright corruption in some cases to avoiding the hot potatoes by going around the rules, bending legislation and doing crazy things like organizing some sort of non obligatory questionnaires instead of organizing a legal and only legitimate action called a REFERENDUM!!!!!

Switzerland is one of the countries that are known for their large number of referendums.
Now if that isn't one of the best systems out there as far as direct participation and outright representation goes, then I don't know what country beats them.

Think about it.

Is there a topic that people want to address, a law they want to change, a policy that they want to delete, then let the people decide via a legal referendum, thus making the decision not only legal, but also legitimate.

No room for political games and abuse of power!

I'm almost ashamed at some of the things I've seen in the past decades, as far as traditional democratic nations go. There have been so many things that just trample all over common sense and logic, so many things that just trample all over democratic values, that for me to make a short list I would need 10 times the bandwidth I have available here on Steemit.

Why have we strayed?

Well, I dare say that too many people just don't care and they don't want the responsibility.

Well, then, what is stopping the ship from sinking?

The ship called Democracy.

Or do we think that it is unsinkable? if that is the case then we may as well rename Democracy to "TITANIC"!

I seriously believe that we have come to a turning point in this world.

It is almost shameful to say that the "West" obviously needs an "East" to get back to its true values and logic. I'm not going back into history, what I am referring to is "CARING" and understanding and accepting "RESPONSIBILITY".

How sad, but yet based on what I see, very true.

Hey I'm your life
I'm the one who takes you there
Hey I'm your life
I'm the one who cares
They, they betray
I'm your only true friend now
They they'll betray
I'm forever there

I'm your dream, make you real
I'm your eyes when you must steal
I'm your pain when you can't feel
Sad but true
I'm your dream, mind astray
I'm your eyes while you're away
I'm your pain while you repay
You know it's sad but true
Sad but true

You you're my mask
You're my cover, my shelter
You you're my mask
You're the one who's blamed

Do do my work
Do my dirty work, scapegoat
Do do my deeds
For you're the one who's shamed

I'm your dream, make you real
I'm your eyes when you must steal
I'm your pain when you can't feel
Sad but true
I'm your dream, mind astray
I'm your eyes while you're away
I'm your pain while you repay
You know it's sad but true
Sad but true

I'm your dream, I'm your eyes
I'm your pain
I'm your dream, I'm your eyes
I'm your pain
You know is sad but true

Hate I'm your hate
I'm your hate when you want love
Pay Pay the price
Pay, for nothing's fair

Hey I'm your life
I'm the one who took you here
Hey I'm your life
And I no longer care

I'm your dream, make you real
I'm your eyes when you must steal
I'm your pain when you can't feel
Sad but true
I'm your truth, telling lies
I'm your reasoned alibis
I'm inside open your eyes
I'm you
Sad but true

Sad but True

We have gotten lost in various ways. I would tend to agree that people don't want responsibility; they feel entitled to just having stuff taken care of.

On the other hand, we have also become very selfish and self-involved. That is, we think ME is more important than WE. So everyone strives for power and control, so they can have their way, rather than figuring out ways we can work together so we all can get what we want.

Bright Blessings!

Another good post Jack - I agree with this thinking as well :)

i am agree, totally @jackmiller

hate off ...

Hahah!!
I like the fact that you've used Metallica's sad but true to explain the situation.

To participate to politics the most important one that we need is good communication with people, Thanks @jackmiller

I agree with the content of your posting this, it is appropriate that we in politics so as not to become a victim of the politics of the wicked

Great plug for participation, Jack! I totally agree that We, the People, have the opportunity right now at this critical juncture in history to really make the changes in our governments that could change the course of history for the much needed better! Upvoted!

nice music of her. nice to hear, i really like the song metallica.

In the age of luxuries it is very difficult for many to take responsibility for something. They just want to give them things, gifts, subsidies, all kinds of things just for existing, hard work and a sense of belonging have been lost, and all the values that once represented the West have been distorted to lose their true value.

"Democracy" is so absurd now, that it has been reduced to voting for what the governors want you to vote for, when the election of the people is different to the election of them, then "the country is losing its democratic sense".

Lately it's about choosing the King, and choosing who you want to take away your freedom.
