Now Why on Earth Would He Go And Say That !?steemCreated with Sketch.

Here you have a President of the worlds most powerful nation, on stage at the UN uttering these, what are in my ears, bizarre words.

Why on Earth would President Reagan use the words 'Alien' and 'Threat'... was he privy to top secret information about the existence of aliens? My thoughts: Yes of course he was 'In the know'.

During a speech before the United Nations in 1987, President Ronald Reagan spoke longingly for the world unity that would happen if aliens invaded Earth.

He said:

“Perhaps we need some outside universal threat to make us recognize this common bond. I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.”

One of the truly weirdest things he ever said in public.

Some might argue that he didn't choose his words carefully, or that he was 'just having a laugh' at our expense. I disagree, it seems more like he is either warning us for future events or he was mocking us.

... And if you believe that this strange speech was just a one-offer. Nope, he made plenty of other weird speeches (coming from a President). Here follow some of the quotes (actor) President Reagan made in his career as commander and chief.

"The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

... true, but what a cracker!

And then there's this one.

"My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes."

Stupid nit... you cant just go out and b@mb Russia!

But wait, that's not all...

"Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."

He said Whaat? ... he was President!

The top of the governmental food-chain... don't bite the hand that feeds you, comes to mind.

And his best one... wait for it...

"Man is not free unless government is limited."

Straight out of the (donkeys) horses mouth. Noooww you're talking some sense!

My personal take, just to clarify a few things, is that the man was put in a place of power and said some incredible things which make a lot of sense - just not coming from a the CEO of a country. Was he against government? But he WAS the government!

Was he one of the only presidents that worked FOR the people...

Your thoughts? Do you have any other quotes that he made?

Yes Reagan was a proponent of small government.. I'm not sure if you're being funny or if you truly think its crazy to say that a smaller government is better.

To clarify: the bit where he said "Man is not free unless government is limited." is the only thing he said that makes sense! A few others were good too ...

Just found another good one "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." - isn't that true. But throughout is 'reign', what happened with the taxes - did they go down?
