Should Members of Congress Carry Guns?

The congressional shootings Wednesday prompted some Republicans to call for lawmakers to be armed. Would that be a good idea—more guns, less crime? Not necessarily.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana remained in critical condition after surgery to treat a gunshot wound to the hip. The attack in a Washington suburb by an apparently politically motivated shooter using a military-style, large-capacity rifle also left three others wounded. On the same day, on the other side of the nation, a man shot five co-workers—three of them fatally—at a United Parcel Service facility in San Francisco.

Yes, they should carry guns. That way they might shoot each other over heated debates and we can get real people in there. LOL

Is the purpose of your post just to send traffic to Bloomberg? If not, the purpose of your post is obscure. Guns, shooters, and gun control issues are always polarizing and "hot" topics and not having a clear statement of intent is a bit like throwing a bone into the middle of a pack of hungry dogs. It will results in lots of fights, lots of chaos, and very little positive outcome.

It's not really up to the general public to decide whether or not any given member of congress should, or should not, carry a weapon. That's a personal decision to be made by each individual. Any idea that people should decide how best to protect themselves based on mass opinion is ridiculous.

I feel like I'm responding to a troll post but decided to give it the benefit-of-the-doubt. It isn't clear what you hope to accomplish with your post other than to initiate a never-to-be-won war of words, beliefs, and opinions.

@iblampman no , i post it to know opinion of people here .

Aside from all the usual debate that comes along when talking about guns, I think congressmen should carry a concealed handgun, especially after what has happened. Of course it is up to each individual whether to do so, but if I were in their position, I would start carrying if I hadn't already. Rand Paul said it best, that without the Capitol Police there who were Scalise's security detail, the rest of the congressmen there would have been defenseless and it would have been a slaughter. The unfortunate turn the political atmosphere is taking is worry at best, and as someone contemplating a career in government, I know I will definitely carry a concealed handgun on my person when out in public.
