There are so many potential uses for Steemit. I am particularly interested in how well Steemit can support the emergence of a consensus position on problems that are ill-defined through free open discussion.
Is the platform set up in such as way that it can effectively summate the contributions from the community? I believe this social exchange process will be critical in the coming years as society grapples with range of issue and people take ownership of the institution of society. Steemit has the potential to make a critical contribution to this process if it can effectively facilitate social exchange to support the emergence of a consensus position. I'd like to put this to the test.
The goal is to have a consensus position/s, or agreed upon solution/s, reach the top of the comment section.
The Task
Your aim is to rate the five people in the following story. I will not clarify the story as it is meant to be ill-defined and vague, just as in life there is no correct answer.
Deep in the pacific a ship on the high seas ran into some trouble. It was sinking fast and all on board had to abandon ship.
A man named John and his best friend get into a life boat and managed to reach a deserted island.
The man's fiancé named Sue, and a handsome sailor, and an old man managed to get into another lifeboat and land on a different island.
Sue wants to go look for other survivors in the surrounding islands to increase their chances of survival but their life boat has sustained damage. The sailor, who lost his child in the shipwreck is the only one who can fix the boat. The sailor says he will only fix the boat if Sue sleeps with him. She is unsure what to do. Recent infidelities have cause disruption in her relationship with John. The old man advises her to do what she thinks is best. She sleeps with the sailor. The boat is repaired and they find the island with John and his best friend. When Sue tells John what had happened he backs away aghast.
How would you rank the 5 characters? Who do you think comes out on top in this story? Please comment your answers below, upvote other comments you agree with. Let's see if we can reach a consensus.
The sailor is definitely a bad guy. I don't care if he's grieving. That's fucked up behaviour.

This is fascinating. I'll come back in a few minutes when I've thought about it more. Right now I think maybe the girl Sue comes out on top. Then again, who was unfaithful in the relationship, her or John?

So am I giving people sort of points for how virtuous or otherwise they are?

Exactly.
Hey, what's that that just went by. Think it was a tumbleweed, lol. I do hope people start to explore some of the different strengths and weakness of the platform. What tasks it's well suited to or otherwise.
