Why I Am a Climate Skeptic, Part 1steemCreated with Sketch.

According to the present narrative, not believing that humans create the present state of climate, that it's catastrophic and that me must act promptly makes one a traitor of some sort. But there are plenty of reasons to be skeptic.

Recently, I found this on the Sierra Club Facebook page.

How can these #ecofascist lie like that straight to our faces? I defy anyone to find me a place where wind blows 24/7/365, enough to have windmills produce energy constantly.

Also, while, yes, wind doesn't cost anything, windmills are very expensive for what they produce. According to the latest calculations (2011, but I doubt it changed substantially), wind receives more than 50x as much public funds per MW produced than gas and coal combined. In other words, wind (and solar) work almost exclusively because of artificial incentives.

Furthermore, windmills basically require to clear-cut forests to produce enough energy (keeping in mind point #1). Don't believe me? Look at this graph showing how much land is needed to produce as much as a nuclear plant.

Finally, there are astounding consequences for humans, birds and even whales. All that for an unreliable, intermittent and expensive form of energy.

So, why I am a climate skeptic: the solutions proposed to fight whatever ill du jour are far worse than the supposed problems they fight.
