Fact free email from Biden.

This afternoon, President Biden sent out a fact-free email, accusing some unnamed set of evil-doers, i.e., Republicans, of supporting “Jim Crow 2.0 … voter suppression and election subversion.”

Biden (or, rather, his communications staff) writes that his support for “voting rights legislation” is “not about me or Vice President Harris or our party.” Really? If Biden, Harris, and the other political leaders of the Democratic Party did not believe that the congressional bills to change voting laws would benefit the Democratic Party and its candidates, do you think they would support those bills?

We should NEVER expect a politician to support legislation that is likely to weaken that politician’s party or decrease that politician’s likelihood of winning the next election. And we should always suspect, when politicians – either Democrats or Republicans – seek to change voting laws, that underneath or in addition to their principled arguments is the belief that their party will benefit from the proposed changes.
