After Charlottesville, when a deluded goon drove his car into counter-demonstrators killing Heather Heyer and injuring dozens more, any responsible Justice Department would have ramped up investigations of this growing hate movement in the USA, but we have Trump/Sessions in Washington and these guys are actively shielding and aiding such groups. Trump even said there were good people on both sides. Totally reprehensible, after the murder??!! Look at this short video for an idea about the types of extreme ethnonationalists at Charlottesville and their level of organization. It's well worth rewatching Vice's excellent documentary from that time.
The term alt-right, coined by Spencer in 2006 to make his movement sound edgy hides the fact that their values are utterly extreme and dangerous. Its a rebranding and it is a great loss that the media has allowed Spencer to define terms of the debate in this way. Then they even used the term alt-right to tar some non-existent alt-left by association with their own movement ... claiming Antifa is somehow extremist, but not Spencer and others like him. As I said Sessions is actively protecting these domestic terror groups ... these are dark days in the United States. Luckily the extremism displayed at Charlottesville meant many communities rushed to remove Confederate monuments and a deeper national dialogue is taking place now. Spencer's group is small and fractured, they have lost momentum. But Trump's presidency has definitely emboldened the racist separatists and I fear even after the demise of this administration, we will be dealing with their domestic terror for some time.
