I was looking at the news today from the Miami Herald for January 1, 2019 and this headline, "Florida's minimum wage is increasing Jan. 1, but some workers say it's not enough", got to me so I read the rest of the story. You can read the Miami Herald Article here: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/article223758680.html.
I just don't understand how they could even say that some people would ever say that $0.21 per hour increase would ever say that "Some workers say it's not enough". Then they wonder why no one wants to read anything from the Mainstream Media anymore mainly because it's crap.
The average rent in Miami for a two bedroom apartment is from $1,800 and above. I have been looking for two years and cannot find anything below that but all of the reports say that the rents are much lower which are incorrect.
Now this means that if you rent an apartment at $1,800 per month which should be 25% of your income is little over $7,000 per month of income that you will need. That means that you have to make at least $84,000 per year which the average Florida resident salary is only $40,000 per year and for retired people on Social Security Retirement is $12,000 per year. By putting "Some workers say it's not enough" in the headlines I wonder what is their main agenda? After all the raise is $0.21 per hour like this is going to break the poverty level. So pathetic on that type of thinking.
All of this also refers to the $15 per hour movement. The movement is great but is far behind the rate of inflation over the years which is now should be $23 per hour and they can't even get $15 per hour? Proven fact that the economy does much better when wages are up. Even millionaires do better but only a few know that.
Then in July 2018 our pathetic County Commissioners raised the County Living Wage to $13.44 only for companies signing new leases. The Miami International Airport salaries should be at least $30 per hour because of all of the security checks that have to go through to be able to work there. This is a necessary workplace in the Miami Area that just not anyone can work there. I suspect that our representatives are working for the corporations instead for the people of Miami-Dade County when they approve such low wages and make disastrous laws to make sure that they get their donations from the very same corporations that support their campaigns.
Then they use the term "We deserve $15 an hour" to somehow justify the point of a low wage earner but the fact is that that is not a living wage period. I don't understand why everyone is stuck on $15 per hour when you really want to do is get out of poverty and live a life of dignity.
Business Groups and the Florida Retail Federation are the corrupt organizations that are keep wages from raising because they think that they will lose money by increasing wages which will also raise other expenses at the same time but in the end they will actually do better. People will have more money to spend in their business and they will not have the turnover of employees which cost business big time.
I am retired so what I do not have an agenda for any corporation, government propaganda, no trolling, writing about low wages but is just something that I want to do to make America Better after all the failures over the years from our representatives. These failure hurt the American People and I am still able to hopefully educate people on reality.
Enjoy the New Year
