"Central exchanges, gotta love em!" (or should we?)
Poloniex, the site which we have known to love and hate. Never a dull moment with a trollbox keeping you awake. Then came the quircks and such. Suddenly I got banned from the trollbox. The ban was permanent.
I asked about disabled coins, coins such as STEEM, "would it not make it so that disabling coins creates trading in a vacuum?"
They said, "no".
Then I said, "but if you are unable to get coins out, how is it then not like trading a vacuum?"
They said, "...."
No message of ban, typing worked but it would not appear, if I typed multiple messages I would get prompted that I have to wait three seconds, typing never appeared in trollbox.
One month later, R.I.P. Trollbox
Permanent bans occured occasionally, only you don't know about them until it happens to you and then you start searching. The site never mentioned the possibility of a permanent ban, yet that possibility existed. Searching on forums showed multiple users experiencing the same thing and when asked on a different account moderaters replied "best not to dig into it". 2 months after my support ticket, weeks after removal of the trollbox, support finally replied: "no use reinstating your trollbox acces, the trollbox has been suspended indefinitely"
Never was there any message about Bitcoin cash, what they intended to do with it.
Keep your eyes peeled was basically their message.
Oh, and this one in their new user agreement:
Now eyes are peeled.
I am happy that I removed "most" of my assets from poloniex to kraken in order to get Bitcoin Cash and buy back altcoins later. But oh poor souls that didn't and poor altcoins, many of which rely heavily on poloniex. I lost some of mine along the way. I have come to peace with it now... but maybe that's temporary. Maybe this whole ghosting thing is temporary also...,
one can only hope.
What will happen in cryptospace for altcoins in the near future can only be speculated about. Maybe this will be a prime time for Waves or Lykke, who knows, only time can tell.
Let's just hope that this is all a temporary hiccup shall we?
Our hopes have become reality :) Or have they?

Logging in shows the same error page as before. Time is ticking, trust is fa... .

And they're back with login capabilities! Sure am happy to be able to end on this note: "it was just a power outage".
I'm still so new to crypto that I've only bought on Coinbase, but I did remove my BTC from there to a private wallet ASAP before the fork. But for the long term I am wondering what is the best, most reliable place to buy Bitcoin? And preferably buy it fast with a credit or debit card, not wait for a week. Are any of them trustworthy? Or at least more trustworthy than Poloniex?

Look into waves decentral exchange, I personally really like them and their customer service is the most awesome I've ever encountered, replies on average within an hour! :D. But otherwise, Kraken is my most trustworthy exchange, only they don't do a lot of altcoin. I don't know about buying with credit card though. Maybe some other reader can help you in more detail on that :)

As long as I can buy BTC quickly that's fine. I can use BTC to buy the alts.

@tsolsi Thanks for posting this. Some of us have been seeing the crumbling of Polo for some time. They have virtually no customer service, don't answer inquiries. A strategy seems to be to disable wallets at key times, or like now, one can't even log in. What is the Solution?? Use exchanges to do just that, exchange. Keep coins in Cold Storage! Thnx for replying, I instantly updated my article, I didn't know login still didn't work, but now I do :). But yes Poloniex has taken way too many freedom in the past to do whatever they want and that customer service... Awefull indeed!

The class action lawsuit was something on their old TOS. That was not a new addition.
