General sarvey or scope of inorganic polymer

in polymers •  3 years ago

When many units join together to form a compound having a long chain, these compounds have high load which is called polymer. And the smallest repeating units are called monomers.

All those macromolecules which have carbon in their backbond are called organic polymers and those macromolecules which do not contain carbon are called inorganic polymers.

Organic polymer - backbond - carbon

Inorganic polymer - backbone - no carbon

Inorganic polymers are generally obtained in pure form. These pure crystalline are obtained in pure amorphous form. Whereas organic polymers have partial crystalline and amorphous properties.

Classification Inorganic polymers can contain different elements in the backbond

chain, and on the basis of the type of these elements inorganic polymers are classified as follows.

Homoatomic inorganic polymer

All those inorganic polymers in which only one type of element is present in the backbone chain are called homoatomic inorganic polymers, which are usually represented as follows

Homoatomic inorganic polymer

Silicon (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) are present in the periodic table and all of them form homoatomic inorganic polymer and similarly Germanium (Ge) and Tin (Sn) of carbon family also form homoatomic polymer. Let us show the bond energy of some polymers in the following table.

It is clear from the above table that the bond strength of homoatomic polymer is less than that of organic polymer. Inorganic polymers can contain many elements and their study becomes difficult.

General property of inorganic polymer

These polymers are hard or soft and they can also be brittle.
These polymers do not burn at high temperatures, but they can soften or melt at high temperatures.

Inorganic polymers have crossling structure, so this polymer is more difficult.

Inorganic polymers have crossling present, so they are not flexible, they do not interact with solvents, so they are very less swallen bloated These polymers are low tensile.
