New pool construction sometimes brings a question – can I integrate my current spa/hot tub into the new pool construction? The answer is yes! With a specialist pool builder, you can have a beautiful design that uses both the new pool construction and your current spa.
1.Make it part of the pool design . A good pool designer can integrate the spa right into the new pool construction design to make it look like it was made that way.
It all works with the right pool deck design:
• The spa can be put in-ground next to the pool with decking surrounding both, making the spa appear to have been newly built with the pool, or
• The spa can be elevated above and slightly over the pool, using multi-level decking. It can even be equipped to have water flowing into the pool.
2.In-ground or above? There are two thoughts on this. An in-ground spa may be more attractive with the new pool; however, some people find an in-ground spa hard to access with no easy steps in and out of it.
It could be placed with half the spa above ground. That gives the users an edge to hold onto when getting in and out of the spa.
Another option is to add a railing at the edge of the spa, so that older adults and children do not fall.
3.Use travertine instead of natural marble, for the budget-minded. When leaving the spa above ground, either halfway or completely, it can be enclosed in a very attractive wall of marble.
Natural marble can be rather expensive, so a really attractive alternative is to use travertine stone. Travertine has the look of marble without the high price tag of natural marble. It is a natural stone that is quarried in Iran, Turkey, Mexico, Peru or China. Due to geological differences between the countries, it differs in appearance from one country to another.
Where marble has that smooth almost mirrored appearance, travertine stone gives the similar vein-like appearance but with a more textured look and feel. Used widely throughout Italy, travertine gives an Italian flair that can make the spa a focal point in the overall new pool construction design.
4.Put it in a gazebo or arbor. If the spa remains above ground, it can be the focal point of your new water oasis by using a gazebo or arbor over it. Both can use lighting effects over the spa for evening ambience that is relaxing and enchanting. The stationary appearance of the gazebo or arbor makes the spa the main attraction, especially if a stone wall has been built around it with attractive steps and railing for easy access.
When you already have a spa in good condition, you do not have to discard it when constructing a pool. A little planning with a specialist pool builder can integrate it right into your new pool.
