Postcolonialism and the enduring legacy

in postcolonialism •  7 years ago

Many of the problems the world faces currently are consequences of the past problems of the world, which are in turn consequences of the problems before them, and so forth. Many countries of the Middle East, Africa, parts of Asia were transformed, subjugated, and disrupted in innumerable ways during the imperial and colonial periods. The fragmentation, identity issues, and authentic sovereignty debates still exist in the post-colonial period, where much of the subjugation is no longer direct, but often is applied via indirect measures. Into this history the West has always injected the threat of war, and recently, the perpetual presence of war, that solves nothing nor heals anyhing. Political borders, systems, and histories remain a contrived mix of hegemonic influences... and the beat goes on... the beats of war.
