Ulog 176: Newest Additions To The Homestead Kitchen

in powerhousecreatives •  5 years ago

Just this morning I was reading @goldenoakfarm's about winter chores she has around her homestead and it's ironic because I was already planning to write this post about the newest homestead kitchen tools I acquired recently for use here during the winter months. So I decided to link her post as well so you can see some of the tasks homesteaders do during the cold (and sometimes long) winter months indoors.

These two newest gadgets will allow me to experiment over the next four months when my chores will more or less be confined indoors; as garden season is not here and I will be recovering from my upcoming elbow/hand surgery.

Newest Tool Additions To My Homestead

I got both of these kitchen gadgets with some e-cards I had accumulated via the Coin Star machine at a local grocery store. See how I do that here.

Jerky Making Kit

While I make jerky using cuts of beef or venison in strips normally, I've been wanting to add this little gadget to my kitchen for a few years. I will allow me to use ground meat to make a different type (texture) of jerky. I have seen some YouTbe videos on this way of making jerky and we have so much ground burger and venison that I'd like to give mr Golden D a choice.

I have to admit I did try making ground meat jerky in the past and it didn't turn out to well. I mean it tasted great but the visual of it was not appetizing at all!

And with this jerky kit and gun, I can make thin strips of jerky. So I have some ground beef thawing out in the refrigerator so I can test it out this weekend. (Watch for an upcoming post hopefully next week)

Fermentation Lid Kit

Over the last year I have been making more and more fermented foods (ie. peppers, ginger bug, red onions for tacos) and I happened to see these while I was searching for an easier way to make these treats.

This kit includes four Airlocks, eight Silicone Grommets and four Stainless Steel Wide mouth Mason Jar Fermenting Lids with Silicone Rings. So I can have multiple jars fermenting at the same time. Perfect for the long winter months when I want to experiment with different vegetables.
