What is with the persistent stigma of HIV/AIDS among gay men?

This guy is the absolute worst.

These people want to feel persecuted so bad.

Gay men were notoriously stigmatized and still are in regards to HIV/AIDS. And perhaps most importantly much of the stigma was removed from any sort of scientific basis of risk. Long after saliva/touching and other casual physical contact were ruled out as transmission pathways for HIV, stigma around those activities involving gay people persisted. Regardless of status or risk, people were being stigmatized because of their sexual orientation. It has no similarities at all with vaccination status.

Gay men are still restricted in giving blood due to fears of HIV in the blood supply if they are at all sexually active, even if they are strictly monogamous/wear condoms/get regularly tested/etc. This is even despite existing evidence that gay blood donors have significantly lower rates of HIV than gay men in general. And despite other unrestricted subgroups having high rates of HIV risk.
