I am still waiting for the Christmas market dates for this years market in Budapest to be published, but luckily, the people arranging the similar event in Prague are much quicker to release their dates. It is kind of sad that you have to wait for so many months for the dates to be released, after all, many people want to plan such visits not only in the end of September or October, but already during the summer. But, in Budapest, they normally only publish the dates sometime in September. In other words, I guess we will have to wait for some more months before we get the Budapest Christmas market dates in 2019.
But, if you would like to visit the Prague Christmas markets in 2019 instead, this is a great chance to do so. The Christmas markets at the Wenceslas square and at the Old Town Square will both open on November 30th and they will remain open until January 6th. Those are some nice dates, but personally, I have a feeling that the Christmas markets in Budapest will open as much as 3 weeks earlier than the Prague markets (meaning, that the Christmas markets in Budapest will open on November 9th). But, that is only a personal guess, so I know nothing for sure about this yet.
Well, it feels strange to write about Christmas markets when it is more than 30 Celsius outside, but that is what life is like every single year, so I am getting used to it!
But, should you visit the Christmas markets in Budapest or should you go to Prague instead? If you haven't been to any of the cities, you better visit both. If you have been to both, please write a comment and tell me which one you liked the most.
Personally, I enjoy both cities so I wouldn't say that one is much better than the other. But, I can say that it feels much more crowded in Prague, so if you cannot stand large crowds, then the Budapest market might be a bit better!
Merry Christmas (after all, it is less than 6 months until Christmas), and have a wonderful day everyone! More information about the Christmas markets in Prague can be found at http://www.praguepraha.com/activitites/christmas-markets/
Did you know that there are a lot of similarities between Prague and Budapest before Christmas? There are two big markets in both cities, and they are very close to one another in both cities. In Budapest, you will walk between the Vorosmarty square and the Szent Istvan square (by the St. Stepans Basilica), while you walk between the Wenceslas Square and the Old town Square in Prague.
