The other evening as I sat with him, our Estate Manager offered me a visit to top floor terrace of new 21-floor building where he needed to inspect some area. I happily accepted.
The moment we reached the top I immediately went towards my familiar direction to see if it looked more beautiful. I had always enjoyed North-East and North-West view of the city from balcony of my 11th floor rented apartment. As I looked at the familiar a little better view, I heard him advising me, "AK, experience a different view today."
I turned towards South and wow, it was a msemerizing view with some high-rises at a distance forming patterns of lighted windows as the traffic slowly crawled through the gleaming roads under a star-lit sky. I loved it.
Today as I look back, I realize, had I stayed with my familiar view, I would not have got a new worthwhile experience for which the man with me had to prompt and I had to be willing to accept and spend time taking it all in.
This makes me understand: Those professionals who after reaching the top change their mind by considering fresh views and newer perspectives offered by leaders do & grow much better than those who hold on to their own familiar thoughts & ideas. The latter often cause failure.
