Prepping for Spring

Gonna try out my hand at a little "Urban Homesteading".

I would love to grow a huge vegetable garden, but current time constraints and space/sunlight constraints will likely make that pretty difficult for the foreseeable future.
So in lieu of lots of veggies, I am going to try and get a decent herb garden going though. While there's the obvious like having fresh basil and such to use while making dinner there's lots of other useful herbs and plants out there!

If I have success with that I might just delve into this...

I haven't cracked this book open yet, but it has good reviews on Amazon and even if I only end up making some hydrosols it should prove useful!

Last up is something for the more leisurely side...

I'd like to get at least a couple solid day hikes in this spring. Mountain House meals make great trail food especially when paired up with a good backpacking stove! They're not super cheap but they're also not all that expensive and they have something like a 30 year shelf life making them equally useful for trail use or more long term storage. Figure if I add one to any order I placed on Amazon I'll build up a nice little stash.
Pics from my hikes to come!

I can't wait for spring to get here!

I love raspberries! Might have to find some at a farmers marker this spring that aren't quite fit for consumption, but will make excellent starters for a raspberry thicket...

Good idea. I bought 2 plants about 5 years ago. 1 of the two plants died. Now I think I have at least 10 plants maybe 20 this year. I think they do like a little bit of extra water and I think it may help if you have wasps or hornets nearby for the ants and pests.

It's fun growing plants. It's calming and can be enlightening by realizing how similar many of the plants are at certain stages. I saw a youtube video about distilling essential oils, it looks pretty straight forward, let us know how it goes. I can't wait for spring too I still have about two months!

Wish you the best of luck with the herb garden. I cannot wait for spring either. This winter weather is driving me crazy. Need to hear the birds cherping and see the grass growing.

I am not a fan of the cold either. Especially without any kind of snowfall to speak of haha. Can't wait for the days of sun and 70 degrees again!

Wish you the
