Mike Pence is suspending his presidential campaign

in president •  last year

I don't even know if this is newsworthy because I don't think anyone really took his presidential run seriously in the first place. Being the VP for one of the most hated Presidents in the history of the United States is not a good place to start and I think that Pence was running on becoming a bit of a turncoat towards the end of Trump's presidency, and nothing more.

The fact that Pence was basically Trump's bitch boy for the entire term, right until around the middle of November, tells me all that I need to know about that guy.

The official reason from Pence's team is that they are suspending the campaign because they are "failing to gain traction" which is a very pleasant way of stating "almost nobody is going to vote for me."

Pence was never going to win the nomination and it is one of those situations where I kind of wonder what it is that someone like him is attempting to accomplish. I can understand some of the other people involved who know they have no chance of winning because they likely hope to simply get publicity or a nice cushy seat in the White House after they eventually give their endorsement to Trump, who everyone knows is going to be the nominee. However, in Pence's case, he has already achieved a ton as a politician being Governor, a Senator, and Vice President. There is zero chance that Trump is going to be doing Pence any favors after he basically stabbed him in the back.

One thing that kind of astounded me was the fact that even though this pales in comparison to other candidates "war chest" Pence managed to somehow raise $3.3 million in donations. Who the hell is donating millions of dollars to someone that so clearly has zero chance of winning? In my mind this is just a sign of the corruption that exists in American politics. Pence holds no office right now, but he is no doubt an extremely well-connected and powerful person. By contributing to his campaign that will give the donors access to favors down the line. Imagine the power that a letter of recommendation from someone like Pence could do for you?

In other news I read that Trump is not going to participate in the next debate but will instead hold a rally half an hour away from the venue that NBC is hosting. This is part of the reason why I love Trump. I don't necessarily agree with his politics, but I love how he just sticks it to the system and refuses to play by the rules.

Will Pence be there? Probably, it might be the last chance he has to raise some more money. If not, bon voyage dude! You will not be missed!
