Health Officials Reverse Patient Privacy For Nursing Homes Over COVID-19

in privacy •  4 years ago

Health officials around the United states are reportedly caving to pressure from media and advocacy groups in newly seeking to seemingly violate patient privacy by moving to relesae details about nursing homes that have suffered from COVID-19 outbreaks.

Patient Privacy

The reason that this is significant is because the move goes against their traditional stance of being known to prioritize protecting patient privacy.

If they give out information about nursing homes related to outbreaks etc, then that will mean giving out information that is confidential health data related to certain patients.

Several states around the country are already giving out some data on cases for nursing homes and other facilities.

Problems With The Data

Despite giving out patient data in some circumstances already, for regions like Ohio, health officials have admitted to experiencing inaccuracies and so there are already problems with the data that they are sharing and that therefore makes the data useless when it is inaccurate.

While state agents are known to routinely lie to the people, here in this circumstances we see that they are demanding that private patient data be shared with the public, forcing various businesses to comply, for "the greater good" and public safety.

Individuals have a right to their privacy regarding their medical data and it is unjust that they be forced to share what they don't want to with the public; violating natural rights in this way doesn't keep people safer.

Health officials allege that they are struggling to balance the privacy rights of the people, urging that they need to seek a balance between the public's right to know with your own individual privacy rights.

There are many in nursing homes about as defenseless as children. That's why in some states there are moves to allow families who have their love one's permission to place camera's in homes so they can monitor what is going on with their love ones....that's how bad it is. As long as they are not giving out names and only gathering data to be sure that protective measures are in place to protect the elderly I don't have a problem with it....just like if someone has a room mate in a nursing home both parties have to agree to having a camera even though the camera will be focused on the initial party who agrees along with their family.
