The draft Communications Data bill, killing privacy
Wednesday last week Britain introduced a law British media describes as "the most extreme surveillance law ever introduced in a democracy."
The law will be forcing Internet service providers of Queen Elizabeth's kingdom to store all your browsing history - probably only at the domain level - in one year.
Officially called the Draft Communications Data Bill, but is often called Snooper's Charter - the spy's law.
The data collected will make it easier for British police and intelligence to investigate crime.
Snooper's Charter also forces companies to decrypt data on request and explain in depth how security functionality within their products run - before they all are released on the market.
Passenger logs on flight arrival times. The audience list at the football game you are going on. The sites you visit on your phone.
Next time you're in London on a football trip or theater weekend, almost all the activity will be saved for twelve months - and accessible to British police and intelligence if they wish the information provided.
The Draft Communications Data Bill also gives the authorities the right to hack computers and other electronic gadgets used in Britain.
The mass surveillance is divided into three main categories: cases where national security is at stake, to prevent or track serious crime, and to ensure the UK good economic health.
The new law got massive resistance before it was introduced. Representatives of the United Nations took a strong stand and warned about this new bill. So did several major global technology companies based in US technology mecca Silicon Valley.
So i guess the VPN business will be booming in the country known for black hats, monocles and tea. That is until a law banning the usage of VPN's passes to prevent loopholes and "terrorism".
