Firefox random password generator

in privacy •  5 years ago

Mozilla is testing a random secret password generator to Firefox same as Google added one to Chrome and Chromium-based browsers in 2018, with Chrome/Chromium v69. The Firefox random secret password generator is expected to turn out to be publicly accessible for all Firefox users with the arrival of Firefox 69 in the beginning of September. The new feature, which is being tested on the Mozilla’s beta browser, Firefox Nightly.

Creator of the browser, Tim Murray, has said in a statement about the evolution of the brand: “Firefox is a browser AND an encrypted service to send huge files. It’s an easy way to protect your passwords on every device AND an early warning if your email has been part of a data breach.” He continued “Safe, private, eye-opening. That’s just the beginning of the new Firefox family.”

At the point when Firefox 69 will be released, the random password generator is expected to be accessible as a check-box in the Firefox settings area, under “Protection and Security,” -> “Logins and Passwords.” Until the feature is generally accessible in Firefox Nightly.

Type “about:config” in URL bar, press enter and click on “I accept the risk”.

Search “ signon.generation.available” without quotation, double click it and set it to true.

These two options were true by default in Firefox Nightly. When these two settings are set to “true”, a checkbox “Suggest and generate strong passwords” will show up in the Firefox Nightly privacy and security settings.

Now after this, users will be able to double-click on a password field inside anywhere on the web and they will be shown with a randomly-generated password. I was not able to take the screen-shot of this step.
