Morning mantras - tell yourself what you are going to do

Write down your desired actions and speak them aloud

Each person's goals will be different, so write down actions - the small things you can do to work towards your goal(s) - and speak them out loud every morning. Best is to use positive words and language: "I will do..." instead of "I won't".

This will be effective because of different reasons:

  1. The Consistency Principle: when you make tell someone you will do something, or promise you will behave a certain way, you will be compelled to act in that way. According to Cialdini's 6 Principles of persuasion:. Read more at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cialdini#Six_key_principles
  2. The Pygmalion effect. where higher expectations lead to an increase in performance. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmalion_effect

By telling yourself you will do something or act a certain way (your are 'promising yourself' to do it), you will be compelled to act in that way. And settings your expectations high has a positive impact on your performance.
