The promise of eternal life: When he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

The first letter of John takes up the dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus, we need the conversion to be born again and enter that new life. God loves us and calls us his children, explains the apostle John in his first epistle. And this love must be transformed into concrete actions, fulfill the commandment that Jesus gives us. Just as Jesus gave his life for us, we must be willing to give our lives for our brothers:
"We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.", 1 John 3:14-16.
It is difficult to say if John possessed Gnostic knowledge, but he is the Christian author who best describes this supernatural knowledge of the divinity; the doctors of the law of Moses, as Nicodemus manifests, do not understand the new birth that Gnosis causes. We cannot comprehend the world of invisible and eternal realities if we do not receive that perfect love that makes us similar to Christ.
And this love for which we are the family of God, contains also a promise of eternal life, the contemplative life by which we receive the true happiness, the happiness of the heart:
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is.", 1 John 3:1-2.
