Peter and the eternal life: God made great and marvelous promises, so his nature would become part of us. 2 Peter 1:4

The apostle Peter in his second epistle told about the importance of spiritual gifts related to the integrity of man, the gifts of eternal life, and the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). These gifts are of utmost importance because they are the gifts that definitively separate man from sinful life and error. These spiritual gifts are the gifts given according to the Christian faith in the second birth by the Holy Spirit, in the baptism done not by water but by fire, as the gospel of Mark explains: "Everyone will be salted with fire" Mark 9:49.
It is important to understand that the message of Christ calls men to the full resemblance with the Lord: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48; the Kingdom of God is the empire or dominion of the divine perfections. Because human reason is insufficient to understand the divine nature, and the contemplative life, the eternal life, is needed to enter into the spiritual knowledge of the immaterial realities: "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" 2 Corinthians 4:18.
This is how the apostle Peter expressed in his second letter that the spiritual love (Agape) and the mercy of God (compassion, kindness, gentleness) call men to the beatitude, that is, to similarity with the divine nature, because with Jesus, there is a new covenant and as a consequence new rewards:
"We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God's own power, when we learned he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. God made great and marvelous promises, so his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world" 2 Peter 1:3-4.
