We as writers must be able to provide one thing that attracts the reader at the beginning of writing. And that's important!
The first paragraph has great power to attract readers. And the next paragraph is the twists and turns of the storyline of a short story.
Short stories always preserve characters and scenes, usually just focusing on a single point of conflict, and suddenly there are unexpected things that can not even be guessed by the reader though.
Making a narrative sentence in the first paragraph should capture the reader's attention with unusual, unexpected and a real-life conflict.
Remember, if you want a hypnotized reader with what you write, begin by writing the perfect first line.
Read the example of the first paragraph of the short story below.
" New Year's Eve. Nellie, the daughter of a general and landlord, a beautiful young girl, always dreaming of marriage, is now sitting in her bedroom staring up at the mirror with tired faces and dazed eyes. Her skin was pale, her expression taut, her feet like a mirror in front of her ".
("The Looking Glass" by Anton Chekhov and first published in 1885.)
From the first paragraph quote in the above short story, the story seems to have started flowing. There is one main character, Nellie with her pale face sitting looking into the mirror. Restless .. that's the picture of his mood.
One paragraph with a sentence is so simple, but like there is a powerful magnet that attracts anyone to finish reading through to completion.
